With 2024 ending, ETMutualFunds did some data crunching to find how the top 10 equity mutual funds of this calendar year have performed in the last three calendar years.
The performance analysis by equity mutual funds in 2024 showed that the top four funds were from Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund. Motilal Oswal Midcap Fund, the topper in 2024, offered a 57.47% return. This midcap fund offered positive returns in the last three calendar years. In 2021, the scheme offered 55.83% return, followed by 10.71% in 2022 and 41.68% in 2023.

Motilal Oswal ELSS Tax Saver Fund, which gave 46.55% return in 2024, has offered positive returns in the last three calendar years. Motilal Oswal Flexi Cap Fund which delivered 46.23% return in 2024 has offered positive returns in 2021 and 2023. In 2022, the scheme lost around 3%.The next scheme in the performance chart is Motilal Oswal Large & Midcap Fund which gave a 45.18% return. The scheme has not offered negative returns in the last three years. It gave 40.82%, 1.66%, and 38.05% returns in 2021, 2022, and 2023, respectively.

The next two schemes on the list are from Invesco Mutual Fund. Invesco India Midcap Fund delivered a 43.22% return in 2024 and has offered positive returns in the last three calendar years. Invesco India Focused Fund offered 43.21% return in the current calendar year and has offered positive returns in 2021 and 2023 only. In 2022, the scheme lost 8.61%.

Bandhan Small Cap Fund offered a 42.31% return in 2024. The scheme has offered over 50% return in 2021 and 2023 but lost around 6.13% in 2022.

HSBC Midcap Fund delivered a 39.33% return in 2024 and has offered positive returns in the last three calendar years. The last two schemes — Edelweiss Mid Cap Fund and LIC MF Small Cap Fund — offered 38.78% and 38.59% returns, respectively, in 2024. Both the schemes have managed to deliver positive returns in the last three calendar years.

Note, we removed Motilal Oswal Small Cap Fund from the list as the scheme was launched in December 2023. The smallcap fund has offered 45.77% return in 2024.

We considered all equity schemes available in the market in 2024, including regular and growth options. We calculated the performance for 2024 from January 1, 2024 to December 30, 2024. For the last three years, the performance was calculated from January 1 to December 31 respectively.
